Booze To Be Served In the Magic Kingdom!

After 41 years of being try the Magic Kingdom is going to sell alcohol.  For the first time a dinging location in Magic Kingdom will allow it's patrons to order wine or beer.

The Be Our Guest restaraunt will serve beer and wine when it opens.  The official excuse for this is that it is a French dining location and you can't eat French food without a glass of wine.

We all know the real reason is that all the parents need somewhere to take the edge off when they realize how much money they spent on a vacation only to see their kid melt down and cause a scene after being dragged out in the hot Florida sun for 12 hours.

Nothing says memories like a heat stroked kid and half buzzed parents.

There's No Booze at Disneyland...Oh Wait Yes There Is...

It's well known that there is no booze at the Magic Kingdom or Disney Land.  However,  that's not really true.

Many people don't know you can get booze at Disney Land.  Sure you can't just walk up to your average dining location and get booze but you can still get booze in Disney Land.

There is a certain special place that most people can't go to.  A magical place that keeps the average person out and only lets in the elite. A certain place called Club 33.

You can find out a fair amount about Club 33 by just doing a Google search but those sites might not tell you that this is the only place in Disney Land that serves booze.

Sure it totally goes against everything Walt Disney believed in but who cares Disney makes big bucks off it.

If you don't like the fact that Disney is making money while ignoring one of Walt's biggest pet peeves, do yourself a favor.   Buy some Disney stock. Then you can be more concerned about Disney making huge profits instead of sticking to tradition.

What Not To Do In Disney World

Seems like all we every hear about is what you should do in Disney. What rides are good, what dining locations are good, where to find characters, and so on. I want to mix things up. I thought I'd warn people about things they should avoid at all costs. I will warn you that these items are the result of actual events. I really wish that was a joke...

Don't feel up Minnie Mouse or any other character: Yes you will get removed from the parks but that's not all. The last guy who felt up Minnie Mouse got arrested and convicted.

No touchy, touchy in the wave pools: This should really be common sense. However, it's happened. If it's your spouse or other close person save it for the bedroom. If you don't know the person don't do it. A man was arrested and convicted because he "accidently" touched some people in the wave pool.

Don't punch the characters: Another one that should be common sense. Sadly it has happened. In fact one character punched back. I don't blame him. I think I'd take my head off and beat the guy with it.

Don't dump ANYTHING in the water on the water rides: In the worst example I've heard of (not sure if it's an urban legend) someone dumped a relatives ashes into the water in pirates. In Florida ashes are considered a bio hazard. They had to close the ride, drain the water, and sanatize the track.

Don't do it they can see you: If you are in Disney World you are on camera. Keep that in mind before you pick your nose, butt, scratch your privates, spit, go at it with a girlfriend on a dark ride, or any other shenanigans.

Don't drink too much alcohol: Booze and rides are not a good combo but an even worse combo is alcohol and the hot Florida weather. People will laugh at you if you pass out and need to be taken to first aide.

Don't flash on the ride photos: Yes Disney did away with the people who review the ride photos but that doesn't mean it's ok to flash. You'll just upset all the parents who are trying to have fun with their kids. Although there are two groups who will thank you - perverts and teenage boys.

That is the short list. I think you get the point. If there are any others you'd like to see, go ahead and post them in the comments.

Where’s the Booze?

If there is one thing you can always count on it’s the fact that Disney is going to do anything to try and make a buck. Sometimes Disney does a good job hiding the fact that they are draining your wallet sometimes they don’t hide it at all they just make you feel bad if you don’t. Take for example that god forsaken hell known as the Bipidee? Bopbedee? Oh I give up! The awful Boutique in the Magic Kingdom, the one where spoiled little girls walk in and come out raging pre-Madonna’s dressed like a princess of their choice. Disney doesn’t even try to hide that one. They rely on guilt to do their dirty work. They know if your little girl sees another little girl dressed as a princess they’ll make daddy pay through the nose so they can dress like a princess too.

A more subtle example of milking your wallet is the “parties.” Disney likes to throw parties. They do this so they can charge people a premium to come into the Magic Kingdom at night. When you think of it these things are cash cows. Annual Pass holders are not allowed in. If you’re vacationing at the time and have a park hopper pass, you can’t get in. Everyone has to buy an expensive ticket to get in. Oh I forgot though…It’s a party so it’s ok.

Considering all that I’m left wondering one thing. Why doesn’t Disney sell booze in the Magic Kingdom? I’m thinking there are a lot of people there who need it. I know if I had a kid who just got dressed up like a princess, I’d need a drink. If I had to go in with her while she got the overhaul, I’d need a few.

When I thought about it the most common reason for not having booze would be that it would ruin the family friendly environment. That’s a bunch of hogwash (how’s that for an old school term). If you try to make that argument you are saying that DHS, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom do not need to have a family friendly environment that’s on par with the Magic Kingdom. That’s a weak argument.

This means that there is some kind other reason. Maybe it’s something dark and scary! Or maybe it could be one of these:

- The Mayor of Main Street is a raging alcoholic.

- Disney pumps happy gas into the air that, when combined with alcohol, causes spontaneous combustion.

- They thought it would keep my wife out of the Magic Kingdom (you failed).

- Happy gets angry, Doc gets touchy, and Dopey gets…well dopey when they’ve been drinking.

- The princesses have been know to get into cat fights when they have been drinking (there’s an idea for a new attraction).

- The muskrat on Splash Mountain has a contract that states he’s the only one allowed to have alcohol in the Magic Kingdom.

- More people than usual would pass out in the Hall of Presidents.

- Captain Hook and Peter Pan are drinking buddies and that ruins the story line.

- Eore gets bad gas when he’s been drinking.

- The cops are tired of responding to domestic disputes between Minnie and Mickey.

- The characters have been known to streak when they have been drinking…That’s odd considering Donald doesn’t wear pants to begin with and Chip and Dale have never worn clothes.

- The Mad Hatter sits in a corner and cries after he’s tied a buzz on.

- Goofy was arrested for possession after his last bender and is now in rehab.

- Tinker Bell fell off of the zip line after the last all night kegger.

Bob Iger’s Bonus….Your alcohol purchases at work…or maybe not.

Disney World! Home of the $10 margarita! I wish I was making that up. A millionaire would balk at what Disney charges for a drink. At first I thought Disney was making big bucks on booze. After all, the profit margin on a $10 margarita has to be ridiculous. I can make a margarita at home for about $1.25. $2.00 if I use good booze. However, I don’t buy in bulk. My guess is Disney is paying $1.00 tops. That’s a $9 profit.

My guess is that Disney is trying to make a large profit while control consumption. Why else would price a drink at that level? Yes you’re a captive audience but think of the other places where you are a captive audience. How about Jetblue? They charge $3 for that margarita and there is no better example of being a captive audience. That leads be to believe that Disney doesn’t want a bunch of drunk people in their park. Guess what…you failed! If someone wants to get drunk you’re not going to stop them! What you are doing is limiting your overall profit. The people who want to get hammered are in the minority (I hope). A drink with a $10 price point only prevents the average Joe from getting drink number two. There are a lot more Joe’s than drunks in the park (again - I hope).

There are ways around buying booze from Disney. Here they are:

1. Bring a flask – You can get a good old fashion pocket flask for next to nothing online. Pick your own poison. The odds of Disney security finding it are nil. Just drink it fast there are cameras everywhere. Or wait until lunch and pour your rum in your coke. The other option is to drink it in the bathroom where there are no cameras stall but that’s just gross

2. Slip some nips in. How is this different from sneaking a flask into the park? The point of smuggling in nips is not to drink them straight. It’s to enhance the pathetically weak Disney drink and turn it into a drink actually work $10.

3. Start the mission impossible theme music please... Go to a resort with a concierge. The best one for this is the Contemporary. 1 - Wonder around the lobby until someone gets on the elevator. 2 - Follow them onto the elevator. 3 - If they do not use their key card to select their floor get off on the second floor. 4 - Take the escalator down to the lobby (this is to help avoid the attention of security). Repeat steps 1 through 4 until someone uses their key card for the 12th floor. 5 – Follow the person off the elevator on the 12th floor and take a right. 6 – Walk straight right into lounge. If you do this between the hours of 5pm and 10pm you can get your hands on some booze. Five to 7 is beer and wine 8 to 10 is the hard stuff. The key is to walk purposefully. If you hesitate you'll draw attention. I should also mention you won't be getting Bud. Sam Adams and Heineken. Woohoo!

4. Make friends with someone with a prosthesis. This only works if they have a hollow leg. You can sneak one good sized bottle or a bunch of small bottles in. I recommend the large bottle. It makes less noise.

(I cannot stress this enough - the above is for entertainment only! Even though it may be tempting, please do not steal. It's not nice.)
