Any animated feature that Disney released after Tangled was going to have a lot to live up to. Tangled was a great movie and Disney hadn't hit that mark in quite a while. With Frozen we get to find out if Tangled was a fluke or if Disney Animation is back on track.
About ten minutes before Frozen starts you get the feeling Disney Animation is back. How? Before Frozen is a Mickey Mouse short. This short is great! It's such a well done and creative cartoon that it will easily put a smile on your face. What they do in this short is just awesome. I'm not going to give anything away. I'm just going to say that it ends miles from where it starts.
Frozen is proof that Disney Animation is on the right track. It gives hope that Disney Animation is entering another golden age. First of all the movie looks amazing. The colors and design of the scenes are fantastic.
The story rivals Tangled. I'm not going to say it's better but it's different. Tangled reminded me of a Pixar film in the way it tugged at your heart. Tangled tugs a little but it's story has some aspects to it that make it a unique Disney film. The fact it ends up that way is almost shocking considering what happens only a few minutes into the movie. I won't tell you what happens but something happens that should make you cry but might make you laugh and say "Well, this is a definitely a Disney movie."
The ending of this movie is great because it does not take the normal "princess movie" path. This might have been a risk for Disney but it's a risk that pays out in spades.
You can't talk about this movie and not mention the music. Music often shows up in Disney films. Try and think of an animated feature that does not have at least one song in it? That's not an easy thing to do. The music in this film is different. In other films the music adds to the film but was optional in many ways. In Frozen many of the musical parts make it feel like you are watching a Broadway show instead of an animated movie. When the music hits it often relates major plot lines. This movie would be broken without the music.
Overall Frozen is an amazing movie and should find itself fitting in with many of the Disney classics. While this isn't going to make my top five Disney movies I could completely understand why this movie would make someones top five.

Up
I saw Up this weekend. By far Up is the most mature Pixar film I have ever seen. Sure the are a lot of typical antics that keep kids entertained and laughing but Up has some of the most emotionally powerful scenes I’ve seen in any movie this year.
I have to warn you now, if you have not seen this movie and do not want to know what happens do not read any further. I’m not going to explain everything that happens but I am going to list some of the most powerful scenes in the movie. There are a number of scenes that are so powerful that the audience goes silent. You can hear a pin drop.
1 – The OBGYN – I’m guessing anyone who has tried to have children and can’t would be crushed by this scene. As someone who is not in that position this was still a sad scene.
2 – Ellie collapsing on the hill – When you see this you know that it’s not good. It kind of hits you in the stomach.
3 – The hospital room – Anyone who has had to say good bye to a friend will find this scene hard.
4 – The Funeral – When you see two people who loved each other so much separated it’s very difficult.
5 – The court summons – You know it’s not going to be good and sure enough Carl, who already has lost so much, loses everything he has.
6 – The Pictures – When you see the decorations and pictures from the life Carl and Ellie spent together it really hits home.
7 – When the Russell talks about the curb – When Russell first explains that his parents are divorced it didn’t hit me too much. When he talks about sitting on the curb you can’t help but feel bad for the kid.
8 – When Kevin breaks her leg – It’s one thing that she’s hurt. It’s another when she tries to walk on her injured leg to get back to her kids.
9 – When Carl finally opens the Adventure book – When Carl opens the Adventure book and finds that Ellie had added a number of things after the “Things I’m Going to Do” page, it really hits you. When he found the final message there was hardly a dry eye in the theater.
10 – When Russell’s dad didn’t show up – I was less sad and more outraged. It didn’t last long but it was tough.
11 – The Credits – What a happy ending. To see all the adventures Carl went on to have with Russell was great.
There are a lot of other happy moments that are great and a lot of really funny moments. This is one of the best Disney / Pixar films I have seen. I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to WALL-E. They both excel in different ways and both were amazing films. If you get the chance, go see up.
