When has the term "binge" ever been a good thing?
People will point to "Binge Watching" as being a positive "Binge".
For older shows, I agree. It can be fun to watch ten episodes of the Simpsons on a day off. It's mindless and lets you relax.
What about new shows?
Binge watching new shows is awful. I mean awful. Remember all the shows you loved as a kid? The ones where you couldn't wait until the following week to see what happened? With binge watching, you will never feel that. It takes away all anticipation.
Anticipation is a multiplier. When something is good, anticipation makes it a lot better. When it's bad, it's worse.
In an age when Netflix and Amazon dump an entire season at a time, it's refreshing to for Disney +, HBO, and Showtime to release one episode a week.
For a week, people talk about it, anticipate it, and grow it to something bigger than it is on its own.
I wish all streaming services would do an episode a week. A lot of younger people have no idea how many memories are made by waiting and anticipating.
Thank you Disney, HBO, Showtime, and everyone else who releases one episode at a time.
