Be Back in a Week!

I’m heading out on vacation tomorrow. You’ll have to go somewhere else for your Disney insanity for the next ten days.

When I get back I’m going to do a special series called “The Cousin Mickey Doesn’t Talk About on Vacation.” The following subjects will be covered:

CMDTA on Vacation – NCL

CMDTA on Vacation – The Jewel

CMDTA on Vacation – Mini-Suite

CMDTA on Vacation – Rotan

CMDTA on Vacation – Belize

CMDTA on Vacation – Costa Maya

CMDTA on Vacation – Great Stirrup Cay

CMDTA on Vacation – The Everglades

It may not be Disney related but it should be interesting. If you think I make fun of Disney wait till you see what I do to cruise lines. I’ve been on NCL. It wasn’t good. This is their chance to redeem themselves. If they don’t you better believe I’ll be ripping them like I’ve never ripped anyone before. If you mess up my vacation I don’t take it lightly.

Actual CMDTA News

I thought I’d take a break from my normal shenanigans and give some actual blog news.

NEW CAMCORDER - I’ve purchased a new camcorder. This one, although not amazing in low light, is much better in low light than my last one (like that’s hard). It’s also a 1080p camcorder so hopefully I’ll be able to get some ok footage. I also am going to try to do a montage for each park. Small clips spliced together of the highlights. We’ll see how that works. I’m also going to rerecord some of the rides. The ones I have are just awful.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK – This segment will continue as long as I have Disney pictures. Considering I took 700 photos last time we should be all set. I’m also accepting submitted photos. The rules are simple. It has to be a Disney related photo and if someone is in the photo there should be a reason for it. What I mean by that is, I don’t want photos of people in the parks doing nothing. You should be with a character, on a ride, or something like that. I’ll give you props if your photo is used. Just remember to include you info in the email. The photos should be sent to funmunke@yahoo.com.

NEW CAMERA – Well it’s not really new. I’ve had it for about nine months but I didn’t have it when I went on my last Disney trip. It takes clearer photos at a higher resolution. Also my last camera had a flaw that caused a smudge to show up in bright photos. I had to shop them out be sometimes that wasn’t possible.

Photo of the Week - Dreamfinder

Believe it or not, before Dreamfinder was discarded like a piece of trash, he could be found in the park with Figment. Figment was a puppet that could move around but of course wouldn't talk.

As you can tell by the attire this is an old school photo.

Tiki Room Intro Viedo Posted

My Tiki Room Video has been posted on YouTube. It's just the intro but as everyone knows that is the best part of the attraction now.

You can see the video HERE.

200 Posts – The Men With the Nets Haven’t Caught Me Yet!

Ok how did this happen? Two hundred posts. I know there are some people out there that say it’s two hundred too many but I like to think there is someone out there who has read this blog and at least smiled.

By this point someone out there must have lost a bet. If I had to wager on it, it would be either Len Testa or Matt Hochberg. I knew I’d make it at least this far because of an overactive imagination and possible adult ADD. That’s a good creative mix. It allows you to hear something innocent or something other people would completely overlook and run rampant with it.

I want to thank everyone who have been the subject of one of my posts and who has not sued me after. Once again the gang at WDW Today got hit the hardest. However, Nathan Rose, Jim Hill, Ricky Brigante, and Lou Mongello were also thrown under the bus in the last 100 posts.

So here we go. Posts 101 – 200:

Photo of the Week - 20000 Leagues Under the Sea

Once upon a time there was a unique ride called 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It freaked some people out because it was very claustrophobic and seemed like it went deep under water.

Like a lot of the old rides Disney shut it down but in this case they didn't really replace it. We won't see a ride take up that space until the Fantasy Land expansion is over.

New Sanitizers to be Installed in the Parks

Disney recently installed hand sanitizers in all of the parks in an effort to prevent the spread of swine flu. For years many cruise lines and hospitals have had these dispensers in place and they have proved somewhat effective.

For Disney the big question was – How can we be completely effective?

In a recent press release Disney answered that question.

New scanners and sanitizers are to be installed at the entrances of all of the parks, resorts, and Downtown Disney areas.

The scanners quickly determine if a person is “infected.” If the result is positive the sanitizers kick in and “sanitize the person.

“We picked up these sanitizers at an auction. If they look familiar there is a reason for that. They are the zappers from the Tom Cruise version of “War of the Worlds,” stated Stich, head of special projects.

Disney had to overcome one big problem. The result of the “sanitation” process is a big pile of ash. This problem was corrected by placing high powered vacuum cleaners under in ground where the “sanitation” takes place.

“I think it’s important that we can guarantee that there are no sick people in Disney World. This sanitation policy ensures that,” stated the Mrs. Incredible, concerned mom and health expert.

Beware that the “sanitation” process is permanent. If you even think you might have the sniffles, stay away from Disney World.

Disney to Offer New Childcare Program

Disney currently offers childcare for parents who want to go out to dinner or enjoy some other distraction without having their rug rats hanging all over them. The childcare is rather expensive but its an in depth program full of activities. However, due to complaints about the price Disney has developed a new program for cheap parents.

“The first thing we had to do was lower the overhead. Our current program included snacks, movies, and multiple cast members. We had to reduce that to get the price lower,” stated Brer Fox, the head of child services in WDW.

To reduce the overhead the new program will have only one employee per 100 kids. In a typical childcare setting that would be considered a gross understaffing. It’s impossible for one employee to keep track of 100 kids in a typical setting. To further reduce overhead all snacks and entertainment have also been drastically cut.

How can you keep kids happy with next to no food and little entertainment? The answer may surprise you. Everything comes down to environment.

“We are recreating the jail scene in Pirates. Each child will be put in a jail cell which is themed to an old Spanish fort. The will be give one cup of gruel for a snack. Entertainment will be an Old English Sheepdog who has been trained to pace around with a ring of keys in his mouth. They kids will be told they need to try and entice the dog, just like in the movies and the ride,” explained Brer Fox.

The environment is expected distract the kids for hours. Any children who complain or try to escape will be gagged, chained, and called a naughty buccaneer.

The existing program will still exist for children who care about their children. The new program is projected to cost half as much as the traditional childcare program but the price may be adjusted based to popularity and season.

New Rewards Program

When the economy gets bad you have to get creative. Disney announced a new program last week that is aimed at stimulating the economy.

“This program is “stimulating” in a number of ways,” stated Roger Rabbit in an interview.

The idea for the new program was developed by Roger and his cartoon buddies. They took a game they’ve played for years and put it into practice.

The basic idea is random characters will walk up to guests and give them a swift kick to the crotch. If the person manages to stay on their feet the family gets a full night taken off their bill. If they are not staying on property they will receive a $50 gift card.

The family isn’t the only one to be “stimulated” by this program.

“I expect business to shoot through the roof. I’m the closest sports equipment store near the Disney property. I’ve stocked up on athletic protectors,” stated George the owner of a local Orland business.

Of course Disney is also planning on carry a full line of character themed athletic protectors in the parks and resorts.

The press release did not include an expiration date or a limit on how many people could be “stimulated.” However, the sack smacking could continue for quite sometime if the economy stays down and the program is successful at drawing people into the parks.

Country Bears Put on Diets

Nearly the entire cast of the Country Bear Jamboree has been placed on a diet after cracks were found in the stage.

According to an unofficial Disney report the cracks were obviously stress fractures and would be quite costly to repair. The report also stated that there was a direct link between the damage and the “gross obesity” of many of the shows performers.

The bears are to be put on a strict diet and professional fitness trainers are being brought in to train the bears.

According to the report Liver Lips alone had gained 340 pounds in the last two years. The average weight gain was 160 pounds.

According to an unnamed cast member the “bear in the ceiling” gained so much weight that her swing broke and she crashed to the floor during a practice. The swing was rebuilt with high tension wires that are normally used for suspension bridges.

One major part of the proposed diet will be the elimination of alcohol. Apparently the bears would consume up to eight kegs of beer and four jugs of moonshine over one day.

One cast member who used to work the show stated that this is a step in the right direction and that the bears were often “hammered” during performances.

Other aspects of the diet will be replacing “bad” foods with “good” foods. For example instead 20 pounds of biscuits and sausage gravy, Total cereal will be served. Instead of 15 chicken fried steaks for dinner, the bears will be served braised chicken. Instead of fried lard sandwiches, a garden salad will be served for lunch.

Each bear has a target weight and a timeframe to meet that goal. If they do not meet their goals they could be removed from the show and placed in the elephant pen in the Animal Kingdom.

Photo of the Week - The Skyway

It wasn't overly exciting. It didn't fit into the theming of any of the lands. It had an insanely slow load time. Handicapped people had an awful time trying to ride it. However, few people who rode the skyway disliked it. The view you got was second to none. The photos you could get from the skyway were amazing.

In this photo you can see Space Mountain in the distance, the Tomorrow Land Speedway below, and Mickey's Toon Town Fair on the left. The existence of Toon Town puts this photo near the end of the skyways life.

Vampire Sues Disney for Discrimination

Late last week an Orlando vampire filed suit against Disney World for what he feels is discrimination.

The vampire who wants to remain anonymous stated that he was prevented from entering the Magic Kingdom because he refused to take his mask off.

“I wear a mask and cover my body from head to toe because of an allergy to sunlight that most vampires have,” stated the vampire. He went on to explain that exposure to sunlight can cause severe pain and even death.

Security turned him away for security reasons according to head of park security Doc Dwarf. “We can’t let people go walking around in the parks dressed like that unless they at least let us check them out. The vampire was unwilling to remove his mask to let us do our jobs.”

There was also some concern about bulges in the vampires outfit. “Those were blood packs. It was my lunch. It’s not like I can survive on turkey legs like everyone else,” stated the vampire when asked about the odd bulges.

The vampire is asking for 5 million in damages which he said are due to the utter embarrassment he was subjected to and the shocking lack of compassion the security officers displayed.

“I’m not doing this for the money. I’m doing this for vampires everywhere!” the vampire stated in his press release.

When asked why he couldn’t just go to the parks after dark like all the other vampires, wannabe vampires, and silly Goth kids, he responded with “no comment.”

Jim Henson, Sesame Street, and Disney

Sesame Street is 40. To say it’s been influential would be an understatement. How many generations have grown up on a steady diet of Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Oscar, Bert and Ernie, and the rest of the gang?

Many people forget that Muppets creator Jim Henson created all of the famous puppets that people love so much. In many ways they were his greatest achievement. More people have watched Sesame Street than the Muppets. Sesame Street has been far more successful than the Muppets as well.

When you think about it how many amazing characters did he create for that show? I can’t name them all but here are the ones I remember. Keep in mind I haven’t seen the show in 23 years. You know they were memorable if I can remember them 23 years later.

Elmo

Count von Count

Cookie Monster

Grover

Big Bird

Oscar the Grouch

Bert

Ernie

Aloysius Snuffleupagus

Sully

There have been a few cross over events over the years. Have you seen “The Muppets Take Manhattan?” If you have you’ll remember the cross over event at the end. You’ll notice Big Bird shows up for the wedding at the end. Kermit has also done cross over work. He’s showed up on Sesame Street a few times.

I’m not an expert on the Muppets or Sesame Street so I don’t know if we’ll ever see another cross over. I don’t know if Disney owns the rights to the Sesame Street crew or not. That would be a good question for Jim Hill. I’d think if Disney did own the rights we’d see the Sesame Street characters somewhere in the parks. I think they’d at least be part of Muppet Vision 3D.

Who knows maybe if Disney doesn’t already own them, they’ll acquire them. After all that would make more sense than buying Marvel.

Wow Moments

Everyone has “wow” moments. “Wow” moments are the times when something stops you in your tracks or you get a sudden rush of emotion. Most of the time these “wow” moments are infused with nostalgia.

Here are a couple of my wow moments:

#1 – The monorail looping around Epcot: I don’t know why but this always amazed me. I guess I knew I was in for a good day when I saw Spaceship Earth go by. It’ll be strange on my next trip. I’m staying at the Boardwalk so I won’t be experiencing this.

#2 – Cinderella’s Castle from Main Street USA: I think this is on everyone’s list. When you walk down Main Street most Disney fans get that happy feeling.

#3 – The Hyatt MCO: Ok this might sound like an odd one but when I see this hotel inside Orlando International Airport I know I’ve arrived. On the flip side this one also has the opposite effect on the way back. I know my vacation is over.

#4 – The purple and red signs: I bet a lot of people get the wow moment when they see these signs. Nothing says you’re in Disney as when you see the green highway signs turn into the purple and red Disney World signs.

#5 – The atrium in the Contemporary: The atrium in the Contemporary is just impressive. Even if I’m not staying there I always have to find a reason to go there.

#6 – Pioneer Hall: I stayed at Fort Wilderness a lot when I was a kid. When I see Pioneer Hall I smile. The whole area over there is nice and comforting.

Of course there are others but those are the ones that really stand out for me. Feel free to leave your favorite moments in the comments.

Picture of the Week: The Only Booze in the Magic Kingdom

People claim that there is no booze in the Magic Kingdom. Here I deliver proof that those people are wrong. For years now Muskrat Moonshine has been available for consumption. Only problem is it tastes like a Muskrat.
